At the intersection of photography and wildlife is the incredible Creature Book. Andrew Zuckerman was inspired by 19th century biologists who carried sketchbooks full of the different creatures they encountered.

Zuckerman decided to adapt the idea of indexing various animals with photography instead of drawing.

I’ve had a lot of self-relevations this semester, now that I’m looking back. I’m recording them so I remember for the future.

1. I know for sure that I’m in the right major. I never really had doubts, per say, but I never was actually sure if I was going to be good enough to get a job in the photography field. After pretty much finishing my infamous Photo III class with mostly 3.7s and 4s, and managing my time correctly, I can confidently say I will be able to land a spot taking photos of some sort. Check out my 500px page to see some of my photos from this semester.

2. On the same vain, I’m starting to actually realize what sort of photography I want to be in. I love the studio. I like being able to control lighting my own way, and not having to worry about unpredictable conditions. I was always under the impression that I wanted to only shoot landscapes and outdoor abstracts for the rest of my life. But that’s not true now that I’ve had a feel for the studio.

3. I’ve been trying lots of alcohol the past couple months. This has made me feel like I’m an actual adult for the first time in my life. Which is great.

4. But it also makes me want to move out and be on my own ASAP. I’m sick of feeling like I can’t be alone with my boyfriend ever. I need an apartment, especially with Devin. Hopefully I’ll have enough money after the summer is over to at least start thinking about it. I’ve been thinking about that a lot lately.

If grandmothers around the world had a rallying cry, it would probably sound something like “You need to eat!”

Photographer Gabriele Galimberti’s grandmother said something similar to him before one of his many globetrotting work trips. To ensure he had at least one good meal, she prepared for him a dish of ravioli before he departed on one of his adventures.

“In that occasion I said to my grandma ‘You know, Grandma, there are many other grandmas around the world and most of them are really good cooks,” Galimberti wrote via email. “I’m going to meet them and ask them to cook for me so I can show you that you don’t have to be worried for me and the food that I will eat!’ This is the way my project was born!”

The project, “Delicatessen With Love”, took Galimberti to 58 countries where he photographed grandmothers with both the ingredients and finished signature dishes.

He acted as photographer and stylist during each shoot with the grandmothers, taking a portrait of both the women and the food they made for him.

Isolina Perez De Vargas, 83, Mendoza, Argentina. Asado criollo (mixed meats barbecue).

The red thread of fate is an East Asian belief originating from Chinese legend and is also used in Japanese legend. According to this myth, the gods tie an invisible red string around the ankles of those that are destined to meet each other in a certain situation or help each other in a certain way. Often, in Japanese culture, it is thought to be tied around the little finger.

The two people connected by the red thread are destined lovers, regardless of time, place, or circumstance. This magical cord may stretch or tangle, but never break.
